How to Install Windows applications on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS!

    Linux based operating system now became very popular. One of them is Ubuntu Operating System. Many users now likes Ubuntu and uses on their PCs. It is free and open source software. Its LTS version comes with 5 years of long term support which provides security patches and other software bug fixes through updates. Latest version of Ubuntu is 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa. It releases two version of software every year such as 19.04 and 19.10.

Ubuntu has its dedicated software center called Ubuntu software where many applications are available. Linux based Ubuntu operating system runs .deb files as program. Software of Ubuntu can also be installed via Ubuntu repository through command line in Terminal. But as we all know many application still built for windows platform and not available both in the software center and repository. But, in Ubuntu, there is a script that runs those .exe files of Windows very easily, called Wine-tricks. By installing wine in Ubuntu one can easily run their useful windows applications on Ubuntu operating system.

This article describes about the detailed process of windows application or .exe file installation on Ubuntu operating system.

Here, we have used VLC media player (.exe) for installation. The method remains same for all the .exe files.

Step - 1 : Install Wine

Step - 2 : Launch Wine from Application menu.

Step - 3 : It will prompt a caution message.

Step - 4 : Click in the check box contain option "Install an application" and   Click on OK button.

 Step - 5 : It will lists some packages, select package i.e VLC and click on OK button.

 It will automatically download the package or program

 After downloading, installer will run automatically

Now, graphical installer prompted, go through it like windows application installation.
