Laptop battery is not charging but plugged in on Windows 10 | Check here how to fix!
Laptops always runs on battery. Laptops gets charged via wall adapters. Sometimes in old laptops, there are some issues arise. Its users can face issues in charging as well as in the battery also. Problem also can be arise when replacing the old damaged battery with a new one. After inserting the new battery properly in the battery section of the laptop, laptop showing it is ‘’not charging, plugged in’’ or may be totally just ignoring its battery after booting. This may be due to a bug arise in the system or may be there is a serious hardware issue on the mother board.
This article describes the process of correcting the error occurs in the system due to bugs and it will not be helpful if there is a serious issue on the motherboard or in the wall adapter. But one can surely try this instruction if he / she getting this problem in the laptop. There is no harm to try this methods.
Problems –
- Laptop battery not charging but showing plugged in (using an old battery).
- Laptop battery not charging but showing plugged in (Using a new battery after replacing the damaged one).
- Laptop battery icon showing plugged in, charging but battery actually not charging. Percentage remains same.

Solution –
Listed below method are applicable for those who is facing above mentioned problems in their laptops.
Method – 1 :
Update your system BIOS. If available.
- To update your system BIOS, open official support website of your laptop maker i.e Dell, HP, Lenovo etc.
- Head to the driver and software section.
- Identify the product by the website. For this, enter the serial number or the service tag of the laptop.
- Head to the BIOS option and check if the update available or not.
- If update available, then download the update and install it.

If this doesn’t work or the BIOS update is not available, means there is an updated BIOS in your system then apply method – 2
Method – 2 :
Discharge all the power from the laptop. To do this go through the instruction below -
- Connect the wall adapter to the wall socket and the laptop too.
- Check the adapter charging indicator for uninterrupted power source and make sure that the adapter working well.
- Disconnect or pull out the battery from the laptop and leave it out side the laptop.
- Press the power button for at least 15-20 second. This will discharge the capacitor completely and laptop will turn on directly without battery.
- Shut down the laptop and reattach the battery with the laptop.
- Turn on the laptop and check.
This may be fix the error.
If this method doesn’t work then go for the Method – 3 .
Method – 3 :
Disable and reinstall Microsoft battery drivers. To do so, go through the instructions below -
1. Right click on the Start icon and click on Device Manager option.
A Device Manager window will appear.
3. Right click on Microsoft AC Adapter and click on Disable Driver.
4. Right Click again on Microsoft AC Adapter and click on Uninstall Driver.
5. Right Click on Microsoft ACPI – Complaint Control Method Battery and click on Disable Driver.
6. Right Click again on Microsoft ACPI – Complaint Control Method Battery and click on Uninstall Driver.
7. Now Restart the system and it will automatically
ask for installing battery drivers after booting from the scratch. You can also
download and install it from the manufacturer website.
This will definitely fix the
errors regarding battery, battery driver software for you if there is no hardware issue. After performing all the methods, if this doesn’t work for you
then there is an serious issue in your hardware or in the wall adapter. Consult
a technician, he will fix the issue for you.
