Now a day, in the era of modern displays, there different display qualities available in televisions, monitors, laptops, smartphones etc. It may form some queries in mind. What are these different qualities? When we use these qualities? What is the need of these display resolutions in daily life? If these queries formed also in your mind, then this article can help you! This article describes about different display resolutions which we used in our daily life while playing videos in our computer, televisions and even in our smartphones also.
There are different standards regarding display resolution in terms of playable videos and game plays. We are familiar with the video quality which are SD, HD, FHD etc. and also familiar with the 144p, 240p, 360p, etc. Primarily we can understand that when we play our videos in upper number section, in terms of 'P', then we can get more clear viewing experience. For example we can see, if we play a video containing 720p resolution and play another video containing 1080p resolution in the same display, then we can see a clear picture in that 1080p video. But there is theoretical aspects which we all have to understand.
Display resolution is the number of distinct pixels that can be displayed in each dimension. A display is consists of different technologies which enables attractive output for viewers. Some of them are pixels, PPI, resolution, aspect ratio etc. Pixel is the dot which can be seen in the display if anyone looks closer to the screen. These pixels measured in every display as PPI quantity. PPI stands for Pixel Per Inch. Which means the amount of pixels available in every square inch of the display. If a display carries higher amount of PPI then it will be more attractive to view while playing videos, images and game plays. For example, if a display carries 650 PPI and another display carries 480 PPI and plays a same resolution video on both, then 650 PPI display will present it better, in terms of clarity.
Next, the resolution. Resolutions also has different standards as follows - 144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p etc. Now these numbers represents different names also. they are - VGA, QVGA,SD, HD, FHD etc. Every display comes with fixed PPI and resolution support may be written in the box. It means if a display comes with 720p resolution then it can play a 720p video in it which looks perfect. It doesn't means that it can't play a 1080p or higher resolution video in it. If the display resolution and the video resolution matched then it produce perfect and attractive visibility. For example, if you play a 480p video on a 1080p screen, then you can clearly experience the color blocks in the display as it built for up to 1080p resolution support. At the same time, if you play a 2K video on the same screen you might not able to differentiate the quality. Now, the list below can help to understand, which resolution supports which window size and pixel quantity.
So, while selecting a display in smartphone, television and monitor, if you select that display which supports more or higher pixel quantity with PPI quantity, then it will be more attractive to view while playing videos, games, images etc. as it can able to produce more clear visibility.
Now, in terms of daily life usage in smartphones displays, lower resolution displays cannot streams higher resolution videos. It can only play that video resolution which the display supports. So, it is advised that displays which supports higher resolutions will be helpful in daily usage in terms of playing high resolution games, videos etc.
