Apps., Software, OS too many variation.... Different Software Explained!
Now a day, we are too much familiar with the apps. which is the
abbreviation of application software. Everybody uses applications in their
smartphones as well as PCs to perform different tasks. There are different
types of software available in the computing system. This article
describes about software and its types.
Every computing device is made of two things - hardware and software.
Hardware is made of metals and plastics which we can touch such as mother
board, processor, battery, display, physical body etc. On the other hand,
software is the programming part. Software puts life in the hardware. Thus,
software is called life of the computing devices. Software is basically set
of instructions which tells the computer that how to work to complete a
specific task. To built a software, different programming language is used
such as C++, JAVA etc.
Software broadly divided into two types - System Software and Application
Software.
System Software -
System software is a set of programs that operates, manages the behavior of
the different computer hardware. This is the mother software which allows
the different application software to run on the system. System software
also instructs the other software like drivers and utility software
about how to work on the system. System software provides a platform to the
specific task based application software and software packages. In our
computer and mobile devices, system software is the operating system which
we install. There are several operating systems such as Windows from
Microsoft, Mac OS from Apple and Linux based operating systems such as
Ubuntu, Debian etc. In the mobile devices, there are also operating systems
like Android, iOS etc. These operating system provides an programmed
architecture or programmed environment which allows to run those specific
task based application software which match the environment. These system
software includes the drivers and utility software.
Drivers are basically a set of programs which instructs to run
different devices and which is attached with the computer. These software
usually connects the device with the operating system. We can found these
drivers while we use printers, scanners, audio devices, wireless devices etc.
Utility software is also design to support the operating systems and
also maintain the computer. These software is built for preforming direct
tasks which can helps the users. These utility software comes with the
operating system but users can replace these. Utility software includes file
managers, disk cleaners, anti-virus, debuggers etc.
Application Software -
An application software is called any program or group of programs that
built for end-users. This is the software which is built for complete
specific tasks. These application software also called as apps. Application
software runs on the system software, by which user used these to complete
their tasks. For example, we use web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox,
Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge to browse the Internet; we use word processors
to make a document such as Microsoft Word, Abi word, LibreOffice Writer
etc.; we use audio players to listen songs and video players to watch videos
such as VLC, KM Player etc. These all are the application software which we
run on our operating systems to perform different tasks.
When this application software comes in bundle which contains two or more
application, then it is called application package. We are very familiar
with the application packages of different office suites. An office suite is
an application package which contains some applications such as writer,
spread sheet, presentation, database software, painting tool, notepad etc.
